Here are some helpful tips on how to make sure your website can be accessible by everyone and how you can save money when submitting the content for your website to DigitalWoman. If you use these guides to help yourself and DigitalWoman, the project will run smoother, take less time, and cost less than if you had not used this information.
Decide on content
Decide whether you or DigitalWoman will be providing the content for your new project. If you are providing the content, make sure you perform a spell check before sending it to DigitalWoman. Make sure you use a common program like Microsoft Word or notepad so that DigitalWoman doesn't have to convert the text.
Transferring documents
Pictures are a common graphic tool used in today's websites. The preferred resolution is 72 dpi for the internet and 300-600 dpi for printing. If your pictures are in 'not so good shape' this may cause extra hours for the graphic artist to bring those pictures up to standards. Send your pictures by standard mail if possible so that there is not any transfer damage.
Colors
Colors on the internet are shown to you based on your local computer system configurement. Know that colors may show a little different on other computers. This is unavoidable and should be considered when viewing a new design.
Browsers
There are browsers out there besides Internet Explorer -- and not just Netscape, and not all of them are outdated or underpowered. Many of them meet special needs not served by the "mainstream" browser(s). You might want to try some of them to test the cross-browser compatibility of your pages.
Platforms
Cross-platform support is critical if you are striving to reach the largest possible audience. Test all of your web pages on both Mac & PC platforms to ensure that you don't lock out potential viewers, customers, advertising dollars, and sales.
Target your website market
You are building a website to acheive specific goals. While building a website, you need to keep the visitor in mind. What you like might not best communicate your message to your visitor.
Communication
Web designers are good at what they do but they cannot read your mind. Send as many questions and instructions as you need to get your message across. Keep everything you talk about in writing or just keep notes. This keeps everything running smooth.
Who knows best?
In most cases DigitalWoman will have most of the answers you might need. One way to increase your costs is to make constant changes to the development process. Make note of all the changes you would like and submit them at or near the completion of the project. This will provide a smooth design process and make you a vital part of the design process.
