Highlights

In business and even for getting a job, it is very often, who you know and not necessarily what you know. So it is best that you build and maintain the contacts that you make throughout your life. That is where most of the opportunities and recommendations will come from. Networking! Networking is a proven strategy for building your business and propelling your career forward.

The mistake that most people make is that they are too concerned with what's in it for them and not thinking how they can help others. By helping others you not only make a name for yourself, you also become the "go to" person and opportunities start to flow through you. The more people who know who you are the better the chances are that they will think of you when there is an opportunity.

My advice is to is to get involved and take an active role in your networking. Participate in organizations, events, professional groups and social clubs that offer opportunities for you to meet and greet others. With the advent of the Internet, you can also network in online newsgroups and discussion boards. You have to cultivate relationships and share you ideas, information and resources both offline and online.
