Women in Technology: Closing the Gap and Increasing Access

I was invited to speak with the students at LaGuardia Community College, Long Island City, NY by Vanessa M. Bing Ph.D, Director The Student Center for Women and Josephine Corso, M.S., Director Center for Teaching and Learning. The topic of the Conference was: "Women in Technology: Closing the Gap and Increasing Access"

It was with great pleasure that I accepted the invitation as educating and helping women succeed in a technological environment is my personal and professional mission.

I talked the students through my career path and let them know how I became the technical lead of one of the most prominent companies of the women's movement in the Internet Industry and I shared with them how I got started, some of the obstacles that I faced while learning the trade and how I overcame them.

I described some of the current day to day challenges that I encounter and the responsibilities that I bear. I shared the personal characteristics that are needed to succeed in today's changing economic environment and the tools to employ to propel one's career forward in IT and in business.
